Describing global road death and injury as a "major public health problem with a broad range of social and economic consequences which, if unaddressed, may affect the sustainable development of countries and hinder progress towards the Millennium Development Goals" the UN General Assembly proclaimed the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.

Ten reasons to act on road deaths:

  • Nearly 1.3 million people are killed on the world's roads each year.
  • Up to 50 million people are injured, and many remain disabled for life.
  • 90% of casualties from road deaths occur in developing countries.
  • Annual road traffic deaths are forecast to rise to 1.9 million people by 2020.
  • Road traffic injuries are the number one cause of death for young people worldwide.
  • By 2015 road traffic injuries will be the leading health burden for children over the age of five years in developing countries.
  • The economic cost to developing countries is at least $100 billion a year.
  • Road traffic injuries place an immense burden on hospitals and health systems generally.
  • Road crashes are preventable.
  • A global Action Plan includes practical measures which, if implemented, could save millions of lives.

As responsible corporate citizens, we intend to play our part in reducing road traffic crashes on Nigerian roads by embarking on free driver training for learners (theoretical training) and licenced (basic defensive driving training) drivers on a monthly basis at our Lagos training location. The free monthly driver training will commence on Saturday 29th September 2012. The training will accommodate 10 learner drivers (8.00am to 10.30am) and 10 licenced drivers (11.00am to 1.30am). The registration of participants will be on a first come first serve basis. All interested persons should email their details (see below) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
